Gracie Turner 2016 Youth of the Year

April 29, 2016

Bloomington, Ind. – On February 26th, 2016 a selection committee of distinguished community members selected local teen, Gracie Turner, for the honor of being the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington’s 2016 Youth of the Year.

GracieYouth of the Year (YOTY) is a competition among teen Club Members across the country to showcase dedication to outstanding leadership, service, and academic excellence. The competition begins at the local Clubs and moves to state, regional and national levels. As Bloomington’s YOTY, Gracie’s next step is to compete among other young adults to represent Indiana’s Youth of the Year in Indianapolis this spring. She states that she is, “honored to win this award and to have the chance to represent the Boys & Girls Club for our area at the state level.”

The selection committee’s rigorous process of nominating Youth of the Year includes reading participants’ applications, essays, and qualifying materials which can include reference letters and awards that make them stand out as a leader and voice among our community’s youth. Gracie was chosen among dozens of other applicants from the organization.

Gracie Turner is a positive and uplifting fourteen year old from Ellettsville, Indiana. As a freshman at Edgewood High School and a five year member of the Ellettsville Unit of the Boys & Girls Club, she is a positive influence and role model for everyone around her. With a smile that can light up a room, Gracie loves going to the Club and considers it one big family. She loves animals, reading books and practicing her photography skills in between participating in multiple sports and community volunteering. We look forward to watching this young lady grow into a leader in her community.

Gracie says, “the Club has allowed me to grow a strong relationship with peers and staff members over the time I have been here. It has also given me confidence outside of the Club to try and do more in life.” We are thrilled to have Gracie as our 2016 Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington.
